The Story behind the art
For the series "Edge of Night" I I base my work on motifs from the Children's books about John Blund ("the Sandman" in English) written by me, Lovisa Strömsholm Waldenlind, with bold brushstrokes and reinterpreted Latin proverbs.

Paintings
The paintings differ in severity, with some paintings leaning towards the "happier", more dream-like vibe, while some might tend towards the darker side.

Sculptures
The sculptures in the "Edge of Night" series were originally created about 20 years ago, and will be completed and glazed in 2026.

About the artist
My name is Lovisa Strömsholm Waldenlind, and I am a Swedish artist and author, born and raised in Gothenburg and currently based in Stockholm. I am currently working on my latest series "Edge of night" (at my studio Lost Arts) where I'm drawing inspiration from my published children’s books about "John Blund" (in English: the Sandman) and transforming their motifs into expressive, contemporary artworks.
I grew up in a creative home with a mother who is an artist and trained art teacher, and visual expression was a natural part of my upbringing. This early exposure to art continues to shape my work, where intuition, color, and narrative play a central role.
My paintings explore the space between dreams and reality, often touching on themes of sleep, comfort, memory, and the inner emotional landscape. Through bold brushstrokes, layered textures, and subtle symbolic references, I reinterpret familiar imagery and traditional sayings, allowing each piece to carry both innocence and depth.
My artistic focus deepened alongside my debut as an author with John Blund’s Dream Factory (2024), followed by John Blund Bakes Sleep Cookies (2025), published by Lava Publishing. What began as storytelling for children has grown into a broader artistic practice, where narrative is freed from text and allowed to emerge through paint.
I live and work in Stockholm with my husband and two children. My work is created for both the child and the adult viewer, inviting a quiet return to imagination, vulnerability, and the poetic spaces in between.
